Ashwagandha Liquid
“Withania Somnifera”
Ashwagandha is a herb that has been used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine for thousands of years. The word “Ashwagandha” is from the Sanskrit language, an ancient language of India. The use of Sanskrit died out many centuries ago so we can no longer be sure what Ashwagandha means. However, we do know what the ancients used Ashwagandha for.
To the Ayurvedic physicians Ashwagandha was a powerful restorative and rejuvenating agent which was used as a nutritive, body-building tonic as well as an aphrodisiac and fertility enhancer and as a nourishing tonic for children during times of hardship. It is often referred to as a “rasayana” herb, just like shilajit, as it is said to fight the effects of age and stress on the body and improve physical and mental function. Because of this it was given to the elderly and frail to improve their strength and energy levels and hold back age related physical and mental decline. Nowadays Ashwagandha is used as the number one anti-stress herb and adaptogen and has 30 or so scientific papers published on its effects in humans.
Stress is a modern epidemic. The way we live has wreaked havoc on our bodies. Whatever the stress is, be it mental or physical, the body responds the same way…it releases the stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol. For a short term stress such as escaping from a wild animal or fighting your way out of trouble, these hormones are great, fuelling your escape! Evolution designed this process without realising that in the 21st century we would live with stress continually…long hours at work, ever increasing bills etc. We are continuously producing the stress hormones…even exercise is a stress! The long term effects of continuous stress with constant adrenalin and cortisol production include high blood pressure, lowered immunity, insomnia, loss of libido, reduced muscle strength, weight problems, blood sugar issues and exhaustion. Sound familiar? If so, then Ashwagandha is the herb for you as it helps to reduce the output of these hormones and bring them back to base line quicker, protecting your body from the harmful effects of stress. It also has a mild sedative action which can help reduce the impact of stress and improve sleep. Don’t forget, if you exercise a lot, this is a stress on the body, and Ashwagandha can help recovery from gruelling workouts.
Our Ashwagandha extract is totally free from alcohol, sugar, gluten, lactose and all other unnecessary and unwanted additives.
